At a Loss for Words?

Contrary to popular belief, bloggers don’t always have something to say. Often writer’s block can hit, and the search for a topic that is current, interesting and relevant can become a struggle. That’s why it’s important to have a constant stream of informative sources that provide ideas and issues that are worth talking about and will retain the attention of your readers.

Powerful content is the key to keeping readers engaged in the information you’re sharing online. Here are four ways to make sure you’ll always have a steady stream of material for your blog and social outlets:

1. Web Searches & Alerts

Sometimes it can be as simple as a Google search to find content for your next post. There are easy ways to cut down on the time spent sifting through potential posts, and one way to do this is through the use of simple tools like Google and Yahoo Alerts. This way, the massive swath of information on the internet can be filtered down to specific keywords you’re looking for.

2. Content Aggregators

These assemble feeds from various sources of your choosing, and web alerts can even be integrated to show up on this type of feed as well! Great, easy-to-use aggregators include Feedly, NewsBlur, DiggReader and Newsvibe. If you have favored sources you reference most often before formulating a topic or content, it’s not a bad idea to aggregate them into one personalized feed to save time in formulating your next killer blog post.

3. Hashtags

Once exclusive to Twitter, hashtags are quickly becoming an excellent method of keeping track of conversations and news on many social channels. One of the main reasons hashtags are so useful is that they provide information that is being shared instantaneously across the social universe. This can help you compile a list of topics that are extremely relevant.

4. Your Own Content

Sometimes the best content is your own content! If you’re ever at a loss for a topic to post, it’s never a bad idea to expand upon previous ideas. When it comes to personally created content (like your own blog), it’s very easy to take paragraphs from past posts and broaden them into another idea worth discussing in more detail.
